Hydrant Flushing
More
The Public Utilities Department open up fire hydrants of the water distribution system to make sure the system is working optimally.
We post notices of Hydrant Flushing on our News and Notices page.
During hydrant testing:
- You may see coloured water and loss in water pressure during the testing of a hydrant in your area. We recommend that you do not drink or wash laundry with coloured water. While it is not harmful to your health, it may stain your laundry.
- If you see coloured water, turn on a cold water tap for a few minutes. The colour in the water will eventually run clear.
- Reduced water pressure should only be temporary while the hydrants are being flushed; the pressure will return to normal once the flushing is complete.
