Garbage and Recycling Information

Garbage Collection

Garbage is collected weekly. Each household is allowed one free garbage bag per collection.

Place your garbage at the curb before 7:00a.m. Your garbage and recycling bins need
to be visible in your driveway, and not on the street, shoulder, or sidewalk.

Garbage bags must be less than 50 lbs. each (including weight of the garbage can).

Each extra garbage bag must have an easily seen holographic garbage tag. These tags can be purchased from one of our retailers and never expire. Retailers include:

  • Town Hall;
  • Embrun Convenience;
  • Russell Pronto;
  • Russell PharmaChoice; or
  • Embrun and Russell libraries.

Do not mix recyclable material into your garbage.

When there is a statutory holiday, your collection may be delayed by one day. See the calendar for details.

If you are a tenant in a multi unit property, please ask your landlord for your 52 garbage tags for the year.

Recycling Collection

Recycling is collected weekly. It alternates every week between a Grey Bin and a Blue Bin, and is collected on the same day as your garbage.

There is no limit to the amount of recycling. Do not put your items in a bag (clear, blue, or other).

Place your recycling at the curb before 7:00a.m.

Grey Bin is for fibers only.

  • This includes: newspapers, flyers, magazines, catalogues, brown bags, cardboard, envelopes, books, and egg cartons. Remember to discard plastic bags and liners.

Blue Bin is for plastic, metal and glass only.

  • This includes plastic bottles & containers with #1, #2, #4, #5, #7 (no plastic bags), glass jars & bottles, metal food and beverage cans, clean aluminum plates and trays (no aluminum foil, pots or scrap metal).

Reminders:

  • Packaging foam is not recyclable.
  • Styrofoam is not recyclable.
  • Plastic bags are not accepted to put your recycling at the curb. Please use recycling bins.
  • Garbage bags & plastic (grocery store) bags are not recyclable.

Multi-Unit Residences

Property owners / landlords receive a series of 52 tags per unit, apartment, or business they manage. We mail garbage tags for the coming year to landlords in December. Garbage tags are only valid from January 1 to December 31 of the written year.

Tenants, please get your garbage tags from your property owner or landlord.

Garbage tags must be affixed and visible on each bag on the day of pick-up.

Dumpsters

Township of Russell is not responsible for the collection service of waste dumpsters. It is the responsibility of the waste dumpster renter or owner to contact a contractor to arrange this service. Unless you own or rent a dumpster, you must use holographic garbage tags.
