Supporting Earth Day and Sustainability
More
As part of the Township Climate Action Plan, the Township of Russell and the Environmental and Sustainability Advisory Committee invited schools to develop ideas for activities in support of this year’s Earth Day.
We wish to thank and congratulate all students and schools who have helped make our community cleaner. Of interest, the Environmental Science class of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School executed a whole week of activities focused on Earth Day and sustainability. With this year's Earth Day focus being planet versus plastics, they promoted sustainability in a couple of different ways:
- An art installation using plastic recycling as a medium displayed at the school;
- Educated students using games in every classroom about plastic types, ways to recycle, and how to reduce and reuse plastics;
- With the help of the food cycler, they unveiled their composting program encouraging students to compost their lunches in a sustainable way;
- They also hosted a community clean-up day where students participated in the clean-up of approximately 1 kilometer squared surrounding the school grounds
Together, we can make a difference!
