Special Branch Collection Ends Friday
Friday, May 12th 2023, will be the last day of the branch collection. This extra collection was added to support residents directly impacted by the recent ice storm which created damage to many trees in the community. It was not intended for residents to dispose of trees and yard clippings unrelated to the storm. Unfortunately, many residents did use this collection to do a yard cleanup resulting in an unmanageable cleanup effort which could not be completed within the timeframe and budget allocated.
This collection was not budgeted for within the Township, and therefore funds had to be identified in other program areas. Being fiscally responsible means having to set a hard ‘stop date’ on the project after two weeks, at the total cost of $30,000.
Our crews are continuing this collection until Friday, focusing on the areas most affected by the storm. If you still have branches not picked up after that date, here are some options for you:
- The next leaf and yard waste collection day is Saturday, June 3, 2023. Bundle and tie branches (maximum 4 feet long and 2 inches in diameter). For more information on this collection visit our website.
- The GFL Transfer Station at 211 Corduroy Road, Vars remains an option for residents to get rid of remaining branches. There is no cost for leaf and garden waste, but residents will have to transport their own branches to the station. For hours and contact information visit the GFL website.
- Should you wish to burn branches on your property, we invite you consult the Township website regarding fire permit and fire ban to ensure this is done safely.
A reminder to residents that we have free wood chips available for pickup on the East side of the Municipal Garage at 857 Route 400.
