Provincial Financial Assistance Helps Reduce Taxes
The Township of Russell is pleased to share excellent news received at the end of November: the provincial government has confirmed financial support to help municipalities cover the costs of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) services in 2025. This assistance represents nearly $400,000 for our community.
This funding is a direct result of the Township’s collaborative efforts with our Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) and neighbouring counties. Together, we demonstrated the strength of our advocacy, highlighting the challenges faced by municipalities in managing OPP service costs.
This measure will help limit the financial impact on residents. As a result, the average household will see an increase in property taxes of $12.91 per month in 2025, instead of $15.44. Regarding the fees associated with OPP services, the monthly increase will be $2.67, compared to $5.19 without this reduction.
This decision aims to provide temporary relief to taxpayers while ensuring the Municipality's long-term financial preparedness. The budget brief will be updated to reflect this change and added to the website in the coming days.
