Paving on Alain Street and Sophie Street Begins
Paving is starting on Alain Street, with paving on Sophie Street to follow soon.
This $86,900 project was funded by a provincial grant.
In January 2022, the Township got confirmation that we would receive more funding from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund than we estimated in the 2022 Budget ($1,309,410 instead of $633,517). On April 7, Council decided to use these extra funds towards paving the following streets in 2022:
- Dazé (St-Augustin to Pincourt) and Pincourt — $156,900
- Alain Street and Sophie Street — $86,900
- Marion Street, St-Pierre Street, Gustave Street, and Bouchard Street — $294,000
Prior to the extra funding, Alain Street and Sophie Street were planned to be paved within the sewer extension project, as per the Townships’ Private Services Conversion Policy and Procedure. Although this sewer extension project is no longer moving forward, Council decided repaving the streets would be a good use of the additional provincial funding received.
Many roads in the Township need to be updated. We prioritize the roads we need to improve using the engineer's recommendations in our 2019 Infrastructure Assessment Report. These roads are ranked based on the condition, speed limits, traffic volume and best investment. During budget discussions, Council chooses which of these roads, or others, will be improved that year based on money in the budget and other priorities.
