New Pedestrian Crossovers Along the Recreational Trail
There are five new pedestrian crossovers installed in the Township of Russell along the recreational trail. The new pedestrian crossovers provide safe roadway crossing for pedestrians at the following locations:
- St-Pierre Road at the Recreational Trail
- Bay Street at the Recreational Trail
- Castor Street at the Recreational Trail
- Eadie Road at the Recreational Trail
- Concession Street at the Recreational Trail
A pedestrian crossover is different from a regular crosswalk; mainly because they are found along sections of roadways where there is no formal intersection, they give pedestrians the right-of-way, and they require drivers to wait until the pedestrian has fully crossed before continuing.

In addition to these new locations, there is also a pedestrian crossover for the recreational trail at the Embrun roundabout on Notre Dame Street. The crossover at the roundabout was installed in 2020 and has successfully provided a safe right-of-way to pedestrians enjoying the recreational trail.
Reviewing pedestrian safety is part of the Township’s 2019-2022 Strategic Plan and 2021 Business Plan.
