New Hybrid Vehicles
The Township of Russell has added two hybrid vehicles to its fleet as a means of becoming a more environmentally conscious municipality.
We are committed to reducing emissions of our corporate vehicles. We took action with our Green Fleet policy adopted in 2022. The two important parts of this policy are:
- Alternative Fuel Vehicles — each time vehicles or equipment need to be replaced/purchased, we consider hybrid and electric vehicles.
- Idling — we have time standards for idling corporate vehicles, keeping our daily environmental impact in mind.
Our Green Fleet initiative is not our latest commitment to the environment. We are currently constructing a new Snow Disposal Facility, fully equipped to treat and control the flow of melting snow unlike the Township’s existing site. A salt storage facility was built a few years ago with a modern design that offsets the effects of salt contamination. Upcoming environmental initiatives include a municipal Climate Change Action Plan, and the introduction of compost to weekly waste collection. There is also an electric vehicle charging station at the Embrun arena, funded by the Province of Ontario’s Electric Vehicle Chargers Program!
