Mayor’s Statement on Foyer St. Jacques Nursing Home
Office of the Mayor
May 10, 2023
Dear Residents:
As the Mayor of Russell Township, I am deeply saddened by the news of the closure of Foyer St. Jacques Nursing Home in Embrun, a long-standing and beloved care home. Our thoughts are with the residents, families, and staff members who have been impacted by this decision.
While the closure of Foyer St. Jacques Nursing Home does not fall under the mandate of the Township of Russell, as a community, we recognize that this is a critical national issue that highlights the challenges facing long-term care facilities across Canada.
As a nation, we must come together to address the issues and gaps in our long-term care systems and ensure that our loved ones are receiving the highest quality of care possible.
We extend our deepest appreciation to the staff members and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to care for the residents of Foyer St. Jacques over the years. We are grateful for their commitment to our community and the important role they have played in providing compassionate care to our loved ones.
As we move forward, we remain committed to working collaboratively with our regional, provincial and national partners to identify solutions which will address the challenges facing long-term care facilities in Canada. Our community will continue to support and advocate for the health and wellbeing of our residents, and I invite residents to make their voices heard with provincial and national representatives.
Yours truly,
Pierre Leroux
Mayor
