Recreational Complex Reaches Major Milestone (Item 11a)

We are thrilled to announce that we have reached a significant milestone in the development of our new Recreation Complex! After over six years of meticulous planning and preparation, we are excited to award the construction contract to McDonald Brothers Construction Inc. This project marks a pivotal step in creating a central hub for recreation in our community.

The new Recreation Complex will serve as a vibrant gathering space, promoting physical activity and fostering community involvement. It has been designed to meet the diverse needs of our residents, offering state-of-the-art facilities that will cater to a variety of sports and recreational activities.

This development is more than just a building project; it represents our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all community members. As shovels hit the ground next month, we look forward to seeing the vision of a dynamic recreational hub come to life. This complex will not only provide a space for physical activity but also serve as a focal point for community engagement and togetherness.

Retail and Hotel Market Demand Studies (Items 11b/c)

Council received retail and hotel market demand studies. These studies were conducted by Shore-Tanner and Associates. Both studies are available in the meeting agenda and will be shared with businesses and investors.

Noise Bylaw Exemption Requests (Items 11i/j/k)

Council approved the following noise exemption requests:

From Sunday June 30, 2024, at 11:00 p.m. to Monday July 1st, 2024, at 12:30 a.m. at the Russell Fairgrounds.
On Monday July 1, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Homestead Pub.
On August 10, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Homestead Pub.

Recreational Trail Encroachment Update Report (Item 11o)

Council received report PR-2024-01 dated June 24, 2024, and approve resolution:

To issue a letter to all property owners along the Township of Russell recreational trail and hereby notifying them to cease and refrain from erecting new structures and landscaping on Russell Township property.

Direction to Fill Vacancy on Council (Item 15c)

Following the Councillor seat vacancy announced on May 27, 2024, Council voted to have a by-election to fill the vacancy. More information to come soon on nomination period and process as well as the official election date.

The next Council meeting will be Monday, August 26, 2024, at 6:00p.m.
