Celebrating Pride Season
Beginning in June until September, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and allies will come together in many cities throughout the summer to highlight the resilience, talent, and contributions of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community with Pride Season. Pride Season is a term that refers to the wide range of Pride events that take place over the summer (June to September) when 2SLGBTQI+ communities and allies come together to spotlight the resilience, celebrate the talent, and recognize the contributions of 2SLGBTQI+ communities. Although special attention is put on the Pride events during the summer months, they happen throughout the year in many communities.
The acronym 2SLGBTQI+ represents Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and additional people who identify as part of sexual and gender diverse communities. The “2S” at the front recognizes Two-Spirit people as the first 2SLGBTQI+ communities. The “I” for intersex considers sex characteristics beyond sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. The “+” is inclusive of people who identify as part of sexual and gender diverse communities, who use additional terminologies.
With the help of our Community, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, the Township of Russell continues to promote and foster a community where all residents and visitors feel welcome, comfortable, valued, and respected.
Invitation to a Flag Raising Ceremony
On Saturday June 8th, 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm, we invite the community to City Hall (717 Notre-Dame Street, Embrun), for a pride flag ceremony. There will be speakers, performances, community art, information and a picnic. Thanks to generous sponsorships, food will be provided while quantities last, for the picnic including pizza and vegan/vegetarian/gluten free options.
