2024 Budget Adoption
Russell Township is proud to announce the adoption of its 2024 budget, a plan that reflects our commitment to stewarding the community through the complexities of the current economic landscape. The Council's endorsement of report FS-26-2023 on December 11, 2023, marks a significant step in addressing the dual challenges of rising interest rates and inflation.
In response to these economic pressures, the 2024 budget includes a carefully considered 4% tax increase. This measure is essential to ensure the delivery of valued services to our residents and the continued development of our community. For the average household assessed at $350,000, this translates to an $88.17 increase in municipal taxes for 2024. Importantly, this increase includes an additional 1% allocation for the future recreation complex, a key investment in the health and vitality of our community, as well as increased spending on our road and sidewalk infrastructure network which is always a key request from residents.
"Despite facing a challenging economic environment, marked by higher costs of living, reduced grant funding and increased external costs outside our control, we are committed to ensuring financial stability for our township. Our growth revenues have played a crucial role in maintaining a controlled and predictable yearly increase," said Pierre Leroux, Mayor of Russell Township.
The 2024 budget also addresses various community needs and improvements, reflecting our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Russell Township. Key initiatives include enhancing local infrastructure, supporting development, and investing in community well-being.
"Our 2024 budget reflects Russell Township's resilience and foresight in ensuring sustainable growth and community well-being. Balancing immediate needs with long-term planning, it's a strategic commitment to innovation, efficient service delivery, and maintaining our township's unique character.," added Richard Godin, Chief Administrative Officer.
This budget is a testament to our dedication to navigating economic challenges while fostering sustainable growth and community well-being in Russell Township.
