Local Artists Beautify Community Parklets
Just recently, the Township’s community parklets were beautified with local art.
As part of a community art project, artists, students, and community members came together to paint the parklets on June 11 and 12, 2022. The art, displaying themes of diversity and environment, was designed by our local youth. In addition, there is a treasure hunt of 10 objects hidden inside each design. A detailed poster will be installed on site in July. This community art project was developed in partnership with the Prescott Russell Arts Council (CAPRAC).
The Economic Development Department would like to thank Shanna Steals – Visual Artist/Educator, Carly Covey from Hidden Daisy Fine Art Studio, Conseil des arts Prescott Russell Arts Council, local students, and community members for participating in this project. We are proud to have had such great participation and enthusiasm towards the initiative.
The Township of Russell added these two community parklets along the main streets of Embrun and Russell in 2021. After spending a morning or afternoon exploring or shopping locally, these are the perfect places to sit back and relax. The two community locations for this season are:
• Embrun Community Parklet - 905 Notre Dame Street
• Russell Community Parklet - 1125 Concession Street
As part of the Township’s 2022 capital projects, the parklets will soon also have accessible tables, seating, garbage bins and flower barrels.
Questions and comments about parklets can be sent to the Economic Development Department.
