30th anniversary celebration of l’école élémentaire De la Rivière Castor
Embrun, ON - On May 31, 2023, the Township of Russell was honoured to participate in the 30th anniversary celebration of l’école élémentaire De la Rivière Castor, a school with the Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario (CEPEO).
Located in the heart of the village of Embrun at 100, rue Maheu, the school currently welcomes 300 students from junior kindergarten to grade 6 from Embrun, Russell and Limoges. The school officially opened in September 1992, with just 30 students. At the time, it was located in the portables where the Embrun Family Centre and several classrooms are now located. The building the school now occupies was built in 2000 to meet the growing demand in the region.
The staff are committed to providing quality education and learning to all students at the school, without exception. To meet the needs of its students, the school offers:
- a warm, dynamic, francophone learning environment conducive to personal, academic and social success.
- a learning environment where diversity is recognized, appreciated and sought after.
- the means to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to thrive and succeed in a changing world.

During the event, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was also held to officially inaugurate the new premises of the school's daycare, le Centre de leadership en petite enfance Soleil des petits. This centre is under the governance of the Association francophone à l'éducation des services à l'enfance de l'Ontario (AFÉSEO). This daycare recently expanded and will welcome twice as many children in September (30 toddlers and 48 preschoolers) as well as before and after school care, to meet the growing needs of our community and school.
