New Website for Russell Township

The Township of Russell is pleased to announce the launch of its new website on July 21, 2026. Same address, at www.russell.ca but with plenty of new features!

This project was developed in partnership with Accurate Creative following an extensive review of the Township’s previous website. Over many months, the project team gathered feedback from residents, staff, Council members, local organizations, and community partners to better understand how people use the website and what improvements were needed.

The website redesign was guided by public engagement, user research, website analytics, accessibility requirements, and best practices in municipal communications. The goal was simple: create a modern, user-friendly website that makes it easier for residents to find information, access services, and stay informed about what’s happening in the community.

The result is a website designed around residents’ needs, with clearer navigation, simpler language, improved accessibility, and better tools to help users access information quickly and easily.

Key Improvements Made

• Website content was reviewed and updated using clear, plain language while reducing lengthy technical text.
• Information has been reorganized with a resident-focused navigation structure.
• Mobile-friendly design for easier browsing on phones and tablets.

• Enhanced accessibility with WCAG 2.0 AA compliance.
• Simplified online forms and service requests, making them easier to complete and submit.

Key Features

Email Subscriptions

Residents can still subscribe to email updates based on topics that interest them at www.russell.ca/subscribe. If you currently receive Township emails, your subscription preferences have been transferred to the new website. However, you may wish to review and update your selections.

New Text Alerts

Residents can now sign up to receive important updates by text message (SMS) directly to their cell phone. To subscribe, visit: www.russell.ca/subscribe.

Available alerts include:

• Emergency notifications
• Parking restrictions
• Water bans
• Fire bans
• Road closures

Collection Calendar

Finding your waste and recycling collection information is now easier than ever.

Recycle Coach is available online at www.russell.ca/waste and through the Recycle Coach mobile app. Simply enter your address to receive a customized collection calendar.

Features include:

• Sync your collection schedule with your personal calendar.
• Download a six-month PDF calendar from the website and receive an updated calendar every six months by email.
• Set reminders for one or all collection types in the mobile app.
• Use the “What Goes Where?” tool to search disposal information for specific items.
• On the mobile app, you can even take a photo of an item to find disposal instructions.

Interactive Park Map

Explore parks across the Township using the new interactive park map. Residents can search by town or park features and view park locations throughout the municipality. Consult it at www.russell.ca/ParksMap

Alert Banner

Important notices now remain visible at the top of the website. Residents can minimize the banner and expand it later to review information when needed.

Improved Search

The website search function has been enhanced with tags and filters, making it easier to find the information, forms, documents and services you need.

By-laws and Policies

By-laws and policies are now available in one convenient, searchable location. Please note that additional documents will continue to be added over the coming months.

The Community Events Calendar remains the go-to place to promote local events and activities. Organizations wishing to promote an event can submit information via the form at www.russell.ca/calendar.
