Nominate the Township’s New “Russell” Namesake
After community debate over the Township’s current namesake, Peter Russell, the Township of Russell will be keeping its name but rededicating the honour of the name “Russell” to a new candidate who better represents the community’s ideals.
“Russell” namesake nominations will be accepted through the online form as of February 23, 2022, until March 23, 2022. The online form and details about the initiative are available on the Russell Namesake Rededication webpage.
Before submitting your nomination, make sure:
- you are a current Township of Russell resident;
- your nominated namesake has "Russell" as a first name, middle name, or last name;
- your submission includes a detailed, well-researched explanation of all positives and negatives about the "Russell" you are nominating, why they are worthy of such an important recognition, and documents to help the special Committee verify the claims in your submission; and
- you agree to attend the "Russell Namesake Expo" event in May where you will have a booth to explain to event attendees why your "Russell" nomination should be chosen as the namesake.
Additional Information:
- The new namesake does not have to be a single person; it can potentially recognize numerous qualified individuals to allow for a greater diversity of representatives representing our varied population or others.
- Members of the Russell Namesake Rededication Committee may also submit a nomination for a new "Russell".
Residents can request the form in an alternative format, or if they need accessibility support, they can contact the accessibility coordinator or 613-443-3066 extension 2312.
