Hydrant Flushing

The Infrastructure Department flushes fire hydrants in the water distribution system to keep the system working properly.

We post notices of Hydrant Flushing on our News and Notices page as well as on social media.

During hydrant testing:

• You may notice discoloured water and reduced water pressure. The water is safe but may stain laundry, so avoid drinking it or washing clothes until the water clears.
• If you notice discoloured water, run a cold water tap for a few minutes until the water runs clear.
• Any drop in water pressure should be temporary and will return to normal once flushing is complete.
