Winter Maintenance

During the winter season, Township road crews work to keep roads and sidewalks safe by clearing snow and ice. Snowplows and other maintenance vehicles use flashing blue lights while working. Please drive carefully and give crews space to do their work.

Snow Plowing and Removal

Snowplow routes and priorities are planned in advance to provide the best service across the Township. Routes are set using Minimum Maintenance Standards from the Ministry of Transportation.

Priority is given to school bus routes and roads used by emergency and public service vehicles.

Sidewalk Maintenance

The Township clears snow and applies salt on designated sidewalks. Priority is given to sidewalks in village cores and along routes leading to schools.

Important Winter Reminders

During the winter season, please remember to:

• Move basketball nets off the street and out of the road allowance.
• Keep snow on your property and do not push it onto streets, sidewalks or into ditches, as required by the Highway Traffic Act.
• Place garbage and recycling bins in your driveway where they are visible, not on the street, shoulder or sidewalk.
• To reduce snow being pushed back onto your driveway, clear an area to the left of your driveway.
• Keep fire hydrants clear of snow for emergency access.
• Give snowplows extra space at intersections, as they may need room to back up.
• Follow winter parking restrictions.

Report Damage to Property or a Mailbox

If you believe a Township snowplow has damaged your mailbox, landscaping or other property, submit a request to the Infrastructure Department with the following information:

• Name
• Address
• Contact information
• Description of the damage
• Approximate date and time of the damage

Staff will review your request.

Winterize Your Mailbox

Snow thrown from a plow blade can cause damage to mailboxes and posts. You can help protect your mailbox by installing a solid snow deflector, such as:

• 4 x 4 posts to anchor the barrier to the ground.
• 2 x 4 boards installed along the full length of the mailbox and post.

A sturdy deflector can help reduce the risk of damage during winter plowing operations.
