As residents enjoy the summer season at pools, splash pads, lakes, rivers, and other waterways, Russell Township encourages everyone to make water safety a priority during National Drowning Prevention Week, taking place July 19 to 25, 2026—and throughout the year.
Drowning is preventable, yet more than 400 Canadians lose their lives each year in water-related incidents. National Drowning Prevention Week provides an opportunity for communities across the country to raise awareness and promote safe behaviours that help save lives.
Water safety is a shared responsibility. Whether you’re visiting a local pool, enjoying a day on the water, or supervising children at a splash pad, simple precautions can make a significant difference:
Russell Township is proud to support initiatives that promote water safety and encourage residents of all ages to take advantage of swimming lessons, aquatic programs, and water safety education opportunities available in our community.
By working together and making water safety a priority, we can help prevent tragedies and ensure everyone enjoys a safe and memorable summer.
