Russell Township and The Nation Municipality are collaborating on a proposed Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant to support sustainable growth in both communities. With populations projected to increase by roughly 50% over the next 20 years, existing wastewater systems in Embrun and Limoges are expected to reach capacity by 2032. By taking a regional approach, the municipalities aim to develop resilient, cost-efficient infrastructure that protects the environment, maximizes public investment, and ensures essential services keep pace with growth. This joint initiative demonstrates a forward-thinking, collaborative strategy for managing long-term infrastructure needs.
Members from Russell Township and The Nation Municipality were in Toronto this week to attend the 2026 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference, Ontario’s annual gathering of rural municipal leaders. During the conference, representatives from both municipalities participated in three delegation meetings with provincial ministries to advance a joint proposal for a new regional wastewater treatment plant that would service both communities.
