Bi Visibility Day

September 23rd is Bi Visibility Day. Today we celebrate the bisexual community and bring awareness to their struggles. Bisexuality describes one who is attracted to the same sex as well as the opposite sex.
With the help of our Community, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, the Township of Russell continues to foster a healthy and safe community where all feel welcome, comfortable, valued, and respected.
Recreational Trail Closure on Friday, September 23 — Valoris to Consession

This Friday, September 23, 2022, the Recreation Trail will be closed for repairs between Valoris Street and Concession Street. The work is expected to be finished by the end of the day; please avoid this section in the meantime.
As many remember, this section was closed earlier this year for fiber optic cabling installation. The contractor is returning to fix some damages to the trail caused by the construction.

Election Signs Begin Saturday!

Starting Saturday, September 24, 2022, registered candidates and third parties in the 2022 Municipal Election can place election signs in the Township of Russell. This is 30 days before Voting Day and corresponds with Section 7 of the Sign By-law (Election Signs).
Election signs may also be placed on private property, with permission from the resident or business.

Coming Soon: Municipal Daycare Service at Mother Teresa

The Township of Russell will soon be the new daycare provider at Mother Teresa Catholic School in Russell.
The daycare service in Russell will include:
- full-time preschool program (ages 2 ½ to 4); and,
- before and after school program (ages 4 to 12).
The daycare will be located at 1035 Concession Street in Russell.
As contracts are still being finalized, an opening date is not yet confirmed.
To put your child’s name on the waitlist for municipal daycare at Mother Teresa, please fill out the waitlist form.

Project Manager and Design Consultant Chosen for Recreation Complex Project

Council approved a project manager and design consultant for the Township of Russell’s Recreation Complex at the September 8, 2022, Special Council Meeting.
Turner & Townsend will lead as Project Manager and MacLennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects will lead as Design Consultants.

Paving on Alain Street and Sophie Street Complete

Paving is complete on Alain Street and Sophie Street.
This $86,900 project was funded by a provincial grant.
In January 2022, the Township got confirmation that we would receive more funding from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund than we estimated in the 2022 Budget ($1,309,410 instead of $633,517). On April 7, Council decided to use these extra funds towards paving the following streets in 2022:
- Dazé (St-Augustin to Pincourt) and Pincourt — $156,900
- Alain Street and Sophie Street — $86,900
St André Road Now Paved

One of the largest road projects of 2022 is now complete!
St André Road is now paved from Route 400 to Marionville Road. Budgeted at $857,150, this project involved removing and replacing 4.4km of pavement.
This project was funded thanks to a government grant.

Flag Raising in Support of Local Ukrainians

To show support to Ukrainians residing in our villages in Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, the Township of Russell will raise the Ukraine flag from August 29 to September 4, 2022.

In preparation for the municipal election this fall, the Clerk’s Department has published the Municipal Election Accessibility Plan for the Township of Russell.
The Municipal Election Accessibility Plan 2022 is available:
- In-person at Town Hall (717 Notre Dame Street, Embrun); or
- On the Township’s Municipal Election Accessibility Plan webpage.
Alternative formats are available upon request.
