New Pedestrian Crossovers Along the Recreational Trail

There are five new pedestrian crossovers installed in the Township of Russell along the recreational trail. The new pedestrian crossovers provide safe roadway crossing for pedestrians at the following locations:
- St-Pierre Road at the Recreational Trail
- Bay Street at the Recreational Trail
- Castor Street at the Recreational Trail
- Eadie Road at the Recreational Trail

Enjoy a nice place to sit, relax, and enjoy the summer sun at one of two community parklets in the Township of Russell.
A “Parklet” is a part of a street or sidewalk area that has been repurposed into outdoor public seating with landscaping, art, and more. Parklets provide spaces for residents and visitors to sit and gather while exploring and supporting local businesses along the Township’s vibrant main streets.

Members of the public can participate in the 2022 Budget Public Consultation process in 3 ways:
- Email – Send your budget requests by email to clerk.greffe@russell.ca.
- Mail – Send your budget requests by regular mail to the Township of Russell, 717 Notre Dame Street, Embrun K0A 1W1.

Very few items should be flushed down the toilet. Remember to only flush human waste and toilet paper! These are the only items that belong in your toilet. Flushing certain items can result in a back-up of the sewer line into your home or create problems at the Township's wastewater treatment facility.

New Fireworks By-Law in the Township of Russell
August 10th 2021, Embrun - ON — The Township of Russell has a new Fireworks By-Law that will allow residents to use fireworks during specific dates throughout the year.
Previously, fireworks were always prohibited in the Township of Russell under the Noise By-Law, unless granted special exemption from Council. The Fireworks By-Law is in effect as of September 1st 2021.

It has been brought to our attention that the red tape that seals smoke and carbon monoxide alarms during construction is not always being removed before occupancy.
For your and your family’s safety please verify that there is no tape (tape shown in the photo) or any other covering on any of the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your home. The tape that seals these smoke and carbon monoxide alarms will prevent the units from functioning as intended.

COVID-19: Sports Dome Reopens July 19, 2021

We are proud to announce that the Sports Dome will reopen as of Monday, July 19. An email will be sent to members in the coming days with all the details.
A reservation will be required for members of the gym and for courts and fields. Reservations will be open as of Friday, July 16 online or by phone at 613-443-9272.

On June 21, 2021, Council adopted a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, as part of the strategy to “Foster Health and Inclusive Communities” in the Township 2019-2022 Strategic Plan. The Community Safety and Well-Being Plan identifies actions to help reduce health and well-being risks, focusing on mental health, substance use, health and well-being, social determinants, violence, and justice.

COVID-19: Provincial Reopening of Outdoor Recreational Amenities on May 22, 2021

As of Saturday, May 22, 2021, at 12:01 a.m., the following outdoor recreational amenities will be open :
- Tennis and pickleball courts
- Basketball courts
- Soccer fields
- Baseball diamonds
- Horse shoe court

New 40km/h Speed in Residential Zones

Earlier this year, Council approved an amendment to the Traffic and Parking By-law to reduce the speed limit to 40km/h within residential areas.
Subdivisions now have signs at their entrance and exit to designate the area as a 40km/h zone instead of 50km/h. All signs have been installed and reduced speeds are in effect. There are a total of 156 signs installed.
Where it applies, school zone signs have been changed to 30 km/h.
