New Snow Disposal Facility

The Township of Russell’s new snow disposal facility is ready for the winter season!
The new site includes a snow pad, an area for trucks, and a melt pond. It is surrounded by a berm to keep the site discreet and blend with the surrounding area. Landscaping, including trees, will be done in the Spring.
This $2,217,000 construction project is part of the Township’s 2018-2022 Strategic Plan.
Although it is a big investment, it aligns with our priority to reduce our environmental impact....
Reminders for the Holiday Storm

Environment Canada is forecasting another large snowfall (with icy conditions) over the next few days.
Will you be hosting guests for the holidays? Please park all vehicles in your driveway/garage so that your street can be cleared by snowplow operators. If your garage and driveway are full, you can also park at the following locations anytime (day or night) without any worries of receiving a ticket between December 23 and December 27:

Reminders for Friday’s Storm

Environment Canada is forecasting a large amount of snowfall on Friday.
Help our snowplows operators get your streets cleared after the storm by:
- parking in your driveway/garage during the day on Friday.
- moving your basketball net off the street, and into your driveway or garage.
- putting your garbage bins inside your driveway on garbage day (not on the street, shoulder, or sidewalk).

Stiver Park Project

In the fall of 2020, a small group of community members created the "Stiver Park Project" to bring the community together and enhance Stiver Park.
In less than 2 years, the Stiver Park Project collected nearly $15,000 between fundraising campaigns and local grants. Two mature maple trees were planted, a cement pad poured, and a sail shade structure installed; all paid for by community fundraising efforts. December 3 is International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The Township of Russell continues to create inclusive spaces for everyone to enjoy. For example, did you know we have a lift at available at our Russell Centennial Pool?
Remember that not all disabilities are immediately noticeable, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, and brain injuries.

Register for Kids Holiday Camp

Only a few more weeks until kids are home for the holidays!
We are offering a kids’ holiday camp at the Russell Youth Centre on December 27 to 30, and January 3 to 6, 7:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. Ages 6 to 12.
Registration starts December 1 and ends December 21 on our BookKing portal.

Embrun, Ontario – The newly elected council for the Township of Russell was sworn into office on Monday, November 21, 2022, in the council chambers at the municipal office in Embrun.
Acclaimed Mayor Pierre Leroux welcomed returning Councillors Jamie Laurin and Mike Tarnowski and newly elected Councillors Lisa Deacon and Marc Lalonde.

The Township of Russell is hiring a Full-Time Fire Chief.
The Township’s current Fire Chief, Bruce Armstrong, is retiring at the end of December after dedicating over 30 years to our Fire and Rescue Services. During the winter season, please remember to:
- Move your basketball net off the street. It should not be within the road allowance.
- Keep snow on your property, and don't push it into streets, sidewalks, or in ditches (as per in the Highway Traffic Act).
- Your garbage and recycling bins need to be visible in your driveway, and not on the street, shoulder, or sidewalk.

At last night’s Township of Russell Council meeting, Mayor Pierre Leroux and the rest of Council said their goodbyes to two outgoing councillors.
Councillor André Brisson and Councillor Cindy Saucier will not be returning for the next term of Council.

New Pilot Project for Winter Parking Bans

Presently, between November 1 to April 1, no vehicles can be parked on any street in the Township of Russell from 1:00a.m. to 7:00a.m., regardless of weather conditions.
However, following approval by Council a pilot program is in effect for the 2022-2023 winter season:
- In December, January, and February, a regular winter parking ban will be in effect each night from 1:00a.m. to 7:00a.m., regardless of weather conditions.
