Community Builders

The citizens, organisations, groups below are exceptional community builders who work tirelessly, passionately and collaboratively to make Township of Russell a better place in which to live, work and raise a family. The Mayor has presented the recipient(s) below with a medallion in honour of their efforts.

Brigitte Lanthier

December 2nd, 2019
On the evening of December 31st, 2018, Mrs. Elaine Bourget slipped and fell on ice when stepping outside for fresh air. Unable to get up from her fall, she remained outside for six hours in the freezing cold, suffering from serious injuries and frostbite. Mr. Alain Bertrand, who was driving by the next morning, saw Mrs. Bourget and turned around to help. As he was without a cellphone, he ran next-door and found Mrs Brigitte Lanthier for assistance. They called 911, covered Mrs. Bourget with blankets to keep her warm, and kept her conscious until brought to the hospital where she remained for the next two months. On behalf of Council and the Township of Russell, we honour Brigitte Lanthier for her quick act of bravery and her help in most likely saving the life of Mrs. Elaine Bourget on December 31, 2018.
