It is with deep sadness and regret that we inform everyone that sometime early in the morning on 18 October 2014, our beloved Mayor, Jean Paul St.Pierre, affectionately known as ‘JP’, passed away in his sleep.
Affectionately known as ‘JP’, his dedication and commitment to the community was unmatched. Having begun his political career in the Township of Russell in 2006 as councillor, after a long and successful career with the RCMP, he quickly demonstrated his natural leadership and passion for the community he grew up in and later was elected as Mayor in 2010. During his time of service to the community, the list of achievements is long and wide and, includes the development of land, jobs, the economy and the community as a whole. He was Warden of the United Counties of Prescott Russell, Chair of The Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus and a long-time resident and volunteer.
The vision ‘JP’ had for our community was inspiring and included every single person regardless of race, colour or language. ‘JP’ planned to share a lot of ideas about the future at the upcoming all-candidates meeting.
In his speech, he was going to say “So many of you have been with me from the beginning. You took a chance on me four years ago, believing that, together, we could bring a sense of pride back to the Township. That’s exactly what we’ve done”.
He leaves behind four siblings, four children and a loving wife of 25 and a half years.
We will miss the many words, gestures and positive encouragement that we always received from JP. He believed in us and I think everyone believed in him both personally and professionally.
